About Us
Who we are
The Cherangany Forest Conservation Trust (CFC Trust) is a grassroots-born, community-anchored environmental initiative founded to champion the restoration, rehabilitation, and sustainable management of the Cherangany Hills ecosystem, one of Kenya’s most vital water towers. Spanning the counties of Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, and Trans Nzoia, the Cherangany Hills are home to a mosaic of rich biodiversity, sacred cultural sites, and life-giving rivers that nourish millions downstream. However, unchecked deforestation, unsustainable land use, and climate change have led to the degradation of more than 15% of this forest cover over the past three decades. CFC Trust emerged to reverse this loss through community-led conservation, grounded in science, policy advocacy, and local empowerment. We believe that the future of our forests depends on the communities who live beside them- and we are committed to walking that journey together.
Our Mission
To restore, rehabilitate, and conserve the Cherangany Forest through inclusive, locally-led strategies that safeguard biodiversity, secure water sources, and strengthen climate resilience for current and future generations.
Our Values
A thriving Cherangany Forest -protected, productive, and resilient, stewarded by empowered communities and sustained by equitable partnerships.
"The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it."
